Dental
Dental care is vital to the overall health of any pet. Dental disease can lead to health issues with the heart, liver, and kidneys, and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. In fact, 80 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats over three years of age suffer from some form of dental disease, making it the most common pet health issue among our pet population.
In spite of these disturbing facts, many pet owners are not aware of the importance of dental care to their pets’ health. There are a lot of different ways to improve your pets’ dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, and regular inspection.
The most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional cleanings. We perform thorough cleanings here at St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn, including the area beneath the gums that you can’t see or access at home.
If your pet has brown/yellow teeth, bad breath, or is having difficulty eating, these could all be signs of dental disease. Please call us at (718) 621-1629 today to learn more and schedule your pet’s’ dental cleaning.

In House Laboratory
St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn is pleased to have a laboratory in our hospital.
We are very proud of our laboratory. We are able to perform many diagnostic tests quickly and efficiently in it. We can do many simple tests but are also able to offer some more complex ones, too! We are able to run heartworm tests, leukemia and FIV tests, and full blood work for those who are interested in it. There are also many other tests we offer our patients.
The best part of being able to run laboratory tests in our hospital is that we can diagnose your pets much sooner than if we had to send the blood work out to another laboratory. Whenever your pets are not feeling well, we can offer you results and a diagnosis in minutes instead of making you wait a day (or more) for the results.
Knowing what is wrong with your pets quickly allows us to start treatment sooner so they can get back to normal as soon as possible. We will do everything we can to make your pets as comfortable as possible. We pride ourselves on helping pets as fast as possible!
If your pets are sick, we would love to be able to give you answers much sooner than you might expect. We make it our goal to get your pets feeling better as quickly as we can.

We know your pets are members of your family, and we want to make sure you stay together. We highly advise all pet owners to microchip their pets.

Nutritional Counseling
Here at St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn, we are very excited to offer nutritional counseling for pet owners in Brooklyn, NY and the surrounding communities.
Nutrition is so important for pets throughout their lives. As animals age, their nutritional needs change. There are puppy, adult, and senior diets to accommodate pets’ changing needs. Then there are also diets made to help pets with certain diseases and conditions. It is important to discuss your pets’ diets with our staff every time you visit our hospital.
A very common problem in pets that needs to be addressed is obesity. Many owners overfeed their pets when they beg. They also like to show their pets their love by feeding them treats. However, obesity can be a real problem. Talk to one of our friendly staff members to get your pets on a diet and exercise plan to get them back on track to a healthier life.
If you are concerned about your pet’s diet, weight, or lifestyle, feel free to contact us today at (718) 621-1629. We would be happy to assist you in any way we can.
Pain Management
Pain is a terrible thing. St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn wants to alleviate as much pain and discomfort for our patients as possible. To bring you the highest quality care, we are dedicated to providing top notch pain management.
When our pets are in pain, so are we. It is an awful feeling to know that your special friend is hurting, especially when there isn’t anything you can do to help them. It is our goal to eliminate as much pain as possible and to give these pets a better quality of life.
We also anticipate and plan for procedures with the potential for future pain. In addition, we work with pet owners to educate them on how to recognize signs of pain in your pet.
Parasite Prevention
The idea of your pet being infested with parasites is a disturbing thought, but it’s also a medical issue that can have serious consequences if not properly dealt with or prevented. Parasites pose a variety of health issues for our pets, who can be very susceptible to certain parasites depending on age, region, and other factors.
At St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn, we emphasize the importance of preventing parasites. Through preventative measures, you can successfully protect your pet. Pets that are not protected often develop parasites, leading to serious problems for them and their owners.
The cost of prevention is minimal compared to the cost of treatment, which can be expensive and stressful on your pet. Parasites like heartworm can even be fatal, so preventing parasites is of the utmost importance.
Preventative Care
We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.
We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.
Give us a call today to learn more about preventative medicine and how we can care for your pet.

Radiology
At St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY, we are proud to be on the cutting edge of medical technology. Radiology is a technique and diagnostic tool that we use to look inside the body in an entirely non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to create images of all the body’s organs.
In other words, the use of radiology gives us a view of the internal organs in your pets’ body that we otherwise could not see. It is a valuable diagnostic tool that helps veterinarians detect and prevent illness.
The use of radiology is safe, and our entire staff is highly trained. It is our goal to provide your pet with the highest level of medical care possible, and this is just one of the many ways we achieve that.
Senior Care
At St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY, we provide care for your pet through all stages of life. Since pets age faster than we do, it is easy to forget that they can be considered seniors after just seven years. Moreover, as they get older, their health needs change in unique ways that require proper consideration.
We will work with you to develop a health plan that is right for the specific needs of your senior pet. Nutrition, exercise and the prevention of common problems through regular exams are all ways to help your senior pet stay healthy.
As a pet owner, you want to make sure your pet has the highest quality of life as they age. With proper care, they may even get more time to spend with you and your family, so educating pet owners on proper senior pet care is vital.
Ultrasound
St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn is proud to offer ultrasound services at our hospital.
It is our goal to offer our patients the very best veterinary care we can. We are proud of our state-of-the-art equipment, which allows us to diagnose and treat your pets quickly and efficiently.
Ultrasounding is a quick and painless procedure. It uses sound waves to allow us to see inside your pets, without using the harmful radiation produced when we take x-rays.
If you would like to schedule an ultrasound for your pets or if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call us today at (718) 621-1629.
Vaccinations
Here at St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn, we truly believe in the importance of preventative care, especially vaccines.
Vaccinations are made to protect our pets from potentially harmful (and sometimes deadly) diseases. Why wouldn’t you want to give your pets all the protection they need?
Not every pet needs to be vaccinated against every disease. It depends on your location and your pets’ lifestyle, so it is important to discuss both with our staff and your veterinarian. There are many vaccines available, and together we can decide which are the most important for your pets.
It is our goal to provide the highest level of care for your pets, and vaccination is an integral part of their overall health, so be sure to vaccinate them when needed. If you have any questions or are curious about the different vaccines we offer, don’t hesitate to contact us today at (718) 621-1629.
Wellness Exams
At St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY, we believe that regular checkups and wellness exams are critical to your pets’ well-being. These wellness exams give us a chance to evaluate the overall health of your pet while also giving us a baseline for their unique bodies and tendencies.
Not only do these exams keep us up-to-date with your pets’ health, but they also allow us to detect potential problems before they become serious. This thorough checkup gives us vital information to help keep your pet healthy!
Regular wellness exams also make your pet more familiar with our veterinary hospital, which makes future visits easier on them and you. Please contact us today if you have any questions or would like to learn more about how we care for your pet.
