Our receptionist Elizabeth is a hard working girl! Working in the Veterinary field since she was 15, Elizabeth is experienced as an assistant but has graced our front desk with her gentle manner and friendly smile. While picking up knowledge about caring for pets (and clients) she found time to continue her education and just graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Health & Nutrition Science. And while she does love being part of a team that helps pets and their people every day, she is planning to return to school to continue learning and growing in the health field.
Summer is our resident “magician”. She can turn a squirming, matted ball of dirty fur into a thing of beauty! A professionally trained groomer for close to 20 years, she has her own small business and works her magic at St.Francis part time. And while Summer takes great pride in her finished product, the process is just as important. She takes care to work with each customers individual needs. A nervous pet, an older arthritic pet, big, small, friendly, temperamental – she does not take the “one size fits all” approach. She believes that her customers should not only look good, but feel good as well! You can see Summers work on her Instagram page @summerzstylistik_k9kutz
Our receptionist Selena started working in the Veterinary Field as a volunteer High School student. And what was supposed to be a temporary position flourished into something she loved and she decided to stick with it. Over the past handful of years Selena has worked as both an assistant helping the Doctors and Technicians and a receptionist, greeting the customers and tending to all their wants and needs with a smile. In addition to her work at St.Francis, Selena is still a student. She has already earned her AS in Math & Science and is currently studying Psychology, with a focus on cognitive therapy for adults and adolescents. So she has been learning about both animals and people and how to support them both. We are very proud of all her hard work and ambition!
Our resident “Crazy Cat Lady” Christine has been a Technician at St.Francis for close to 10 years now. But you’ll only find her here part time. When she is not here, Christine is partnered with her daughter who established NYC Teens for Animals, a non profit rescue for primarily cats. You can find her at her adoption events, doing TNR, coordinating adoptions and caring for the countless little ones that come in and out of her home. She is truly a Guardian Angel. You can see some of her adoptable pets, volunteer to foster or make a donation on her social media pages or through the following link: https://nyctfa.com/
Larnell has been an Assistant at St.Francis for the past few years. Always quick with a laugh, a joke, or a treat – Larnell is our resident “dog guy”. Even our the most apprehensive patients can feel the love from Larnell and are quickly put at ease. He can frequently be found with a nervous pooch tucked safely inside his jacket getting a reassuring cuddle. He works hard supporting our Technicians, Doctors and has been entrusted with the most important task in the office – making the coffee! In his off time, Larnell raises and breeds snakes. He also loves to go to reptile shows where he frequently adds to his already impressive collection.
Our Practice Manager Christine has been with St.Francis since 2006. The designated “Mom” of the office, Christine is our Jack of all trades! From staffing, to ordering supplies, to maintaining the lab equipment, computers and website, there’s not much that goes on in the hospital that Christine doesn’t have a hand in. Christine takes great pride in making sure the hospital is running well, the staff is happy and most importantly the patients are well cared for. Christine started her career in the Veterinary profession at 17 as a volunteer in High School. With over 40 years in the industry, she has worked her way through the ranks as an assistant, receptionist, Technician and into Management. When Christine isn’t caring for your pets, she’s taking care of her own and tries to spend as much time as she can with her Granddaughters.
Since our Technician Lauren was a little girl, she always knew that she wanted to take care of animals. With over 15 years in the Veterinary field, she can happily say that her dreams have become a reality. At St.Francis, you can find Lauren running appointments, answering questions and assisting the doctor with procedures and treatments. On her off days, she spends time with her son, tending to her vegetable garden and caring for her plants.
Dr. Steven T. Brigande is a founding member of St. Francis Animal Hospital Brooklyn, P.C., established in 1998. He received his B.S. degree in Biology from Fairfield University. He received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ross University, where he graduated with High Honors. He is a member of the A.V.M.A., the New York State V.M.A, A.A.H.A. as well as The New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Brigande has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of parasitic and allergic skin diseases in the dog and cat. He is an avid sports fan and enjoys Yankee games at the stadium. In his spare time he enjoys collecting memorabilia related to Babe Ruth and Roger Maris. He is an individual who lives with passion and is devoted to his family, faith and the patients and clients he provides service to.
Our Assistant Kiarah aka the cat whisperer, handles all of our patients as if they were her own. Her gentle nature combined with a little extra TLC goes a long way in making every visit as pleasant and stress free as possible. Kiarah exemplifies that person that absolutely loves their job! It’s obvious by the big smile always on her face. One warning though – if you come in with a Tuxedo Kitty, you might just leave empty handed! Kiarah has the biggest soft spot for a Tuxedo. When Kiarah is not here giving belly rubs, she is an advanced fish keeper and has multiple tanks in her home in addition to several cats.
